A purple Dragonfly?
3 November, 2009I actually was looking for something else when found a picture of this knife recently:

My first thought was: How could I ever miss this variation?!? Then I read the text that was accompanying the pictures and found out this is no variation but a modification! Spyderco forums and EDC-forums member STi managed to dye the handle of a C28PWH sprint run model purple. I never thought this was possible but STi’s purple Dragonfly is not a single example. Jeff189 from Spyderco forums also dyed his white handled Dragonfly but not purple. The colour looks more like OD.
While I am not quite sure if I could bring myself to alter a sprint run knife that heavily (or at all), I really like the combination of the purple colour and the Dragonfly. Maybe not the classic “manly” looking pocket knife but that colour definitely adds something special to this model. After all it’s a clever way to customize a knife. IMO.
If you have a spare C28PWH and wonder how it was done or if you just want to see all the pictures, check out the “purple Dragonfly”- thread on EDCF, the “RIT-dyed white spydies”-thread on SF, the RIT-dyed white spydies — how are they holding up?”-thread on SF, the “G-10 Dragonfly in BLACK”-thread on SF or the “Green (kind of) Dragonfly”-thread on SF. This should provide you with plenty of information of how to do it and how it turns out and holds up.
